Before I get started with my storyline here, I need to ask you something first. Have you ever seen a Schwinn 5 speed Krate bicycle that was totally decked out with all of its so called bells and whistles like the one I am showing here? I doubt it. I challenge you to look anywhere and I’m pretty sure you will not find another Schwinn 5-speed Krate bicycle that is totally decked out with many of its awesome accessories like I have on this one. With that being said, let me begin my story now.
Hello, folks. Have I got a special treat in store for you today. What I have here is a nice and complete Schwinn 5-speed Apple Krate Stingray Bicycle. Wow!
The frame is the original 5-speed Apple Krate Stingray frame. It is stamped DJ xxxxxx which makes it a July 1973 dated frame. It is in fantastic condition. The paint is relatively new, but it does have some small chipped areas that I filled in with the same color paint as the frame.
The frame also comes with an original 1973 Schwinn 5-speed derailleur. It does show some wear and tear on it because of its age, but it still looks nice regardless and it works like it is new.
The chain guard is an original early 70s Schwinn chain guard. It has been refinished specifically for this Krate bicycle. Please look closely at the pictures and you will see how nice it looks. I think I did a pretty good job refinishing it. Not perfect, but it still looks nice.
The rear 5-speed stamped S-2 size 20” Schwinn wheel is nice. It spins pretty straight for its age. The 5-speed hub on it is dated 1–73. The chrome on it is in good condition, but there is some surface rust here and there on the rim. The rim is stamped Schwinn Tubular S-2 which is what most Schwinn Krate lovers want on their bicycles.
The rear tire is a new 20 x 2.125 Sankura knobby tire. It has never been installed on a wheel before until now.
The rear chrome fender is new. It is in fantastic condition. The chrome shines nicely on it as the pictures show.
The 5-speed shifter is an original 1973 Schwinn Krate Stingray shifter. It has very little to no rust on it. The decals are in near perfect condition as the pictures show.
The chrome sissy bars, with its 2 bouncy shock absorbers, is new. The chrome on it is amazing. You will get many years of use with this thing.
The fork assembly is in very good condition. There is very little rust on this baby. Look how nice it shines in the sunlight.
The 16 inch Atom drum brake wheel is an original 1973 wheel. It is in fabulous condition as the picture show. There is very little to no rust on it. The braking mechanism on it works just fine and dandy.
The 16 inch tire on it is a new Kenda tire. It is in very good condition. You will have many years of use with this tire.
What do you think about the two sparkly red flag valve stem caps that are on both wheels? They are new of course and boy don’t they look nice on this bicycle. If you’re going to own a Schwinn Apple Krate bicycle, then you will have to have a pair of these caps on it.
The chrome handlebars are the original 73 dated Schwinn handlebars. The chrome on it looks very nice as the pictures show. Look how nice it shines in the sunlight.
The handlebar grips and the brake levers are original and are very nice for their age. They are 50 years old now, but you would never guess that by looking at them. They have been taken very good care of throughout the years.
And then, of course, there is the chrome goose neck stem. It is in fantastic condition. And yes, it is date stamped 73. I try my very best to keep the same dated components on my bicycles as much as I can and this Schwinn gooseneck stem is part of that.
I feel a classic Schwinn bicycle is not officially a classic Schwinn bicycle unless it has a couple of awesome looking streamers dangling down from its handlebar grips. This one has the sparkly and reddish colored Schwinn streamers on it and they look very nice on it. The glowing sparkly red color of these streamers match the color theme of this bicycle to a “T”.
The rear black tool bag is very nice. It is made from black vinyl and it is new. You have to admit it does add some distinction and pizzazz to this bicycle.
You’re probably thinking to yourself right now, “Is that a real tail I see dangling down the back of the bicycle?” Well, yes it is. It is an authentic red and black dyed fox tail. Wow! Look how nice it looks on this bicycle. If there ever was a particular colored item that blends in perfectly with the color of a bicycle, then this tail would be it.
The next thing on the list is the pedal crank and the sprocket. The crank is date stamped 73 which makes it the original crank. The 52 tooth sprocket is also the original 1973 Schwinn Mag sprocket.
The two pedals with reflectors are original early 70s Schwinn Approved pedals. They are in fantastic condition for their age. They were, of course, made by the talented craftsmen of Germany.
I am also including with this incredible deal a brand new chrome turn signal unit which is attached to the rear sissy bar. It is not a Schwinn Approved turn signal unit, but it looks almost like the real deal. You will have to add batteries to it to make it work.
What do you think about the flamboyant red water bottle attached to the center seat post on the bicycle? It is new and it looks just like the flamboyant red paint on the frame. Wow! It’s the little things like this that turns a mediocre looking bicycle into one bodacious looking bicycle.
I’m pretty sure you have noticed the sparkly red security cable attached to the center seat post section on his bicycle. It is an original early 70s Schwinn 4 number combination lock. It is in very good condition for its age. Once again, the color on it matches the color theme of this bicycle to a “T”.
Then there is the Schwinn Apple Krate Stingray banana seat. It is a vintage reproduction of the original early 70s Schwinn Apple Krate banana seats and it is in fantastic condition. Look how nice it looks on this bicycle.
The chrome headlight, the red and white checkerboard mirror, and the chrome bugle horn are new. These three items, by themselves, are literally the proverbial icing on the cake that completes this amazing deal.
Please look at the handlebars again and you will see the Schwinn speedometer head attached to it. This speedometer head has been refurbished and it works just like it is new because it is new. There is 0 miles on this speedometer head. It also comes with a nice speedometer cable and an original Schwinn driver. This speedometer set completes the powerhouse of accessories that is currently on this bicycle.
Now comes the piece de resistance to this most incredible deal. Look at that awesome clear windshield in front of this bicycle. How awesome is that? How many Schwinn Krate bicycles have you seen lately that have a windshield on them? I’ll tell you how many ….. none except this one. This is very unique and it is lovely to behold. If you look at the bottom of the windshield, you will see the Schwinn Apple Krate name on it. Once again, how awesome is that? If you look further at the edging on this windshield, you will also see it has a nice flamboyant ted transparency on it which matches the color theme of this bicycle. Once again, how awesome is that? Try finding that on any other Schwinn Apple Krate bicycle that is out there. You will not find it anywhere except here, I promise.
Please note: The sale of this bicycle is      considered As Is. Because of its current age and condition there will be no returns or refunds allowed. I repeat, There will be no returns or refunds allowed. So please make sure this is what you want before you purchase it. Selling the whole kit and caboodle for $3995 obo. What a deal. Thanks for looking at my sweet and unique 1973 Schwinn 5-speed Apple Krate Stingray bicycle and God bless America. Thanks
