Spectacular 1983 Univega Specialissima (Miyata 1000) Touring Frame Set.
Up for sale is one of my most prized frame sets.
This is a 1983 (I believe) Univega Specialissima.
Univega was an importer of Japanese bikes, manufactured by Miyata at the time. The Specialissima was their top of the line touring bike, and it utilises the same tubing, geometry and features as the famed Miyata 1000.
However, Univega used better paint than Miyata and it shows! This exemplar is in beautiful condition, truly a special find. Note the hand painted lug cut outs. There are very few nicks and scratches on the paint for a 40 year old frame.
The frame has a 53cm ctc seat tube and a 53cm ctc top tube. Very generous long wheelbase. Single eyelets rear, double front, rear rack mounts, and those delicious long lugs with cutouts. Seat post is 26.8mm
You can run 700x32mm tires here with fenders, but you’ll struggle to get a nice fender line with 35mm.
Most canti brakes will work with either 27” or 700c wheels here. I recommend the DC 960 for style and power.
