SCHWINN STING-RAY KRATE REFLECTOR STIMSONITE 12A RED 2-Pie 3¼"

This is a clean used example of a 2-pie Stimsonite 12A 3¼" Sting-Ray rear reflector, made for Schwinn by the Gulco division of Bright Star Industries through the mid to late 1960s and up to around 1970, for rear strut mountings on Sting-Rays, Krates and similar banana-seat muscle bikes, Schwinn part number 9749 (or 07 755 from 1966 onward). This is the earlier 2-pie lens design used in the 1960s; later bikes into the 1970s used a 6-pie Stratolite 38 lens. Reflector area is 3¼" in diameter on a Bright Star No. 376 aluminum backing plate. (Photo 7 shows its listing in the 1964 Bright Star catalog.) The lens shows "STIMSONITE" and "NO. 12A" across the top, and "SAE A 60" across the bottom. The "NO. 12A" on this lens is the non-raised design; it is not molded with a curving backplate under the letters, but is on the main surface of the lens like the "STIMSONITE" letters above them. Reflector lens condition is excellent with minimal shelf wear. The reflector and backing have both been polished and waxed for a good clean finish.
