This bike has a serial number beginning with YC9604 which, based on what I've read, makes this an April of '96 build. I bought this bike locally about 8 years ago as a restoration project but never did much with it. The original owner told me everything on it was original except for the rear rim/freewheel. When I bought it the handlegrips were gone and the tires were dry-rotted. Everything else is as it was when I bought it. The red bear trap pedals are NOT INCLUDED and were sold with another bike; the original metal GT platform pedals are back on and are what will come with the bike. This bike has a ton of GT parts including the pedals, crankset, droopnose saddle, seat clamp, Mohawk front hub, and quill stem. It has a Tektro brake that could use a new cable and some adjustment. The front rim is the original Weinmann 36 spoke w/ GT Mohawk hub and spins true. The rear rim is an Alex 7x23D 48 spoke with a small dent near the valvestem but still spins fairly straight. It has a 1/2 x 1/8 x 16T freewheel (probably a Suntour but I'm not positive) which has a small amount of play in the hub. The headset is the original AheadSet SE-1. I replaced the tires with blue Cheng Shin reproduction Tioga Comp III-style tires from Porkchop BMX. I threw on some used Sinz handlegrips that I had laying around just so it would have something to hold onto. The original race pads are also included but they do have some chewing damage from rodents.
This bike is complete and rideable as-is but it could use some basic maintenance to make it tip-top; namely the rear hub and sticking brake. It is a survivor (unrestored) and, therefore, in used condition. The frame is straight and undamaged although everything on the bike will show signs of use and/or age so keep that in mind and look at all the pictures carefully. This is an excellent restoration candidate and I would still love to do it but I have too many other projects going on. If you have any questions or would like more pics please ask.
