RARE 1980’s Zunow Z-1 Bicycle Track NJS Racing Road COMPLETE ORIGINAL EXC 53CM GRAIL.
Rare 1986 Zunow 53CM Z-1 Ditchex Road Racer. Made by the Japanese master builder Takeru Kageyama. This particular color scheme is included in the Zunow 1986 catalog. (See pictures!) This bike has been well loved and maintained. All in all it’s seen very little use and is in great shape with a little bit of grease marks and only minor age related paint scuffing. Slight scuffing on the chrome chainstay.
Single user originally purchased by a former competitive cyclist living in Japan at the 1980’s. It has since spent the majority of its time in a temperature controlled environment in Seattle Washington.

The Zunow brand, founded in 1965 by Japanese master builder Takeru Kageyama, is better known for his wilder road and time-trial designs like the Z-1.
The mid to late 1980s was revolutionary with Kageyama pioneering and patenting a number of unique and innovative designs under his own name. These included the “Pentagla” pentagon-shaped chainstays (1985), “Ditchex” frame tubing with built-in cable channels (1985), “Trited” tubing (triple-butted Tange) (late 1970s), a pioneering range (“Zero”)of lost-wax process propriatary bb and lug castings (1985) and unique mono seatstays (1993). Zunows were renown, too, for their spectacular and unconventional paint and decal schemes and extensive pantographing of components (even bb spindles!). Introduced in 1986, the Z-1 Ditchex Road Racer incorporated all of the latest Zunow innovations of the time
