New-Old-Stock Arius "Gran Carrera Special" Saddle (Made in Spain) with Brown Suede Cover Thank you for your interest in this item and please visit our store for other offerings. We have very reasonable shipping terms and combine orders to save money (for customers) on shipping costs. We also maintain customer friendly return/refund/exchange policies. Product Description: This offering is for a new-old-stock Arius "Gran Carrera Special" saddle in a brown suede cover. We believe these saddles to be the oldest of any of our saddle offerings, but still a respected brand coming out of Spain. The suede cover is noticeably different than our other suede saddles, as it has substantial feel to it...so no fine (velour-like) faux suede cover here. The padding is not substantial, but also not razor thin...so a modest amount of high density foam is our assessment. You will also note from the pictures that this saddle even has the old saddle bag clips (and these are not add-ons...they are original from the factory, as they were slipped onto the rails before the rails were anchored to the hard plastic saddle shell). Some additional specs/details include the following...
  • Dimensions (Length x Width): 274 mm x 148 mm (with the latter measured from the widest point...near the back of the saddle)
  • Weight: 350 grams (per our digital postal scale)
  • Rail material: chromoly steel
  • Rail width: 44 mm (see discussion that follows regarding rail width)
  • Production date: Not available, but as alluded to above, we believe these saddles are as old or older than any other new-old-stock models we stock.
  • Production locale: Made in Spain In terms condition, this is a new-old-stock saddle that shows no signs of ever having been mounted on a seatpost (as was the case with the others we sold before it). Although, you will notice there are still some rub marks, lines and other cover imperfections, but there is nothing that cuts through or punctures the suede material. We are also usually able to identify a few shallow dents in the high density foam...presumably from years of storage. Although, I am not see that here...so not much in the way of "dents" in the high density foam. Finally, the rails do show their age with some discoloration/corrosion, but nothing that affects their function. All things considered, this saddle is cosmetically fairly nice and we believe them to be quite rare. Listing Update...I just wanted to confirm the pictures have been updated to reflect the next saddle that will sell/ship. We only have a few of them left in stock. A note about rail width... We have always assumed saddle rail widths were relatively standard...44 mm for a standard road/mtb saddle and 30 mm for a track saddle (center-to-center measurements). However, we are beginning to understand there is some variability concerning saddle rail widths that we would have expected to measure 44 mm. The variations are not significant...maybe +/- 3 mm from the 44 mm expected width...and we realize there is some flex to saddle rails...but the variations may still make installation a chore at times. For this reason, we are now providing a center-to-center rail width measurement on our saddles. Note to international customers regarding shipping... We apologize to those that feel some of our international shipping charges are too high. We only charge actual shipping rates, but once an order exceeds a certain amount, we hesitate to use the least expensive US Postal Services First Class International service. We feel this way, because this service is not trackable or insurable...so more risk of loss. We prefer the US Postal Services Priority Mail International service for more expensive orders, because this service is trackable at USPS.com and insurable...so less risk of loss. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service. We are sorry about these higher shipping costs, but hopefully our notes help to explain why this is the case. Note to international customers regarding customs... We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs' laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs' laws...so we have to strictly abide by them.
