I’ve got a 54cm steel Surly Long Haul Trucker for sale in good condition. The LHT is the pre-eminent heavy duty touring bike out there — ask that weirdo friend of yours who rode across the country unsupported, chances are they did it on a Long Haul Trucker. Built to withstand heavily loaded touring and handle smoothly and comfortably while doing so, this bike is some serious steel that can stand up to whatever you’ve got to throw at it.
The frame is tough 4130 chromoly Natch tubing, with a double butted main triangle, TIG welded and ED coated. Same for the fork, with brazed lugs. And it’s got every braze-on you could ever need — front and rear fenders, front and rear racks, 3 bottle cage mounts, 2 spare spoke mounts, a top tube pump peg…
Shimano XT 27-speed build, with reliable bar-end shifters, Tiagra front derailleur and XT long cage rear derailleur, 170mm Angel RSC6 touring crankset, 26” wheels with dependable XT hubs heavy duty Continental Ride Tour Extra tires with puncture belt (cost $100 each, and they’re brand new), Tektro brake levers and Oryx cantilever brakes, comfy Kona saddle, Ritchey headset, and silver cockpit. This bike was built to be robust and reliable, and easily fixed or rebuilt on the side of the road somewhere, if need be. Also has a cool rear wheel light setup, great for bike parties, etc.
Bike has been ridden and toured on, but is in excellent working condition. There are some random paint chips here and there, as any touring bike would have. There is a dent on the down tube (see next to last pic), which doesn’t affect the bike at all. Some simple platform pedals are included.
Bike is 54cm, which should fit most riders in the general 5’7ish-6’ish range, see frame geometry in the last pic.
