1981 Miyata 1000 Classic Japanese Lugged Steel Touring Road Bike 53.5cm Blue This is a really well-kept example of an early 80's Miyata 1000. I bought this bike a few years ago from the original owner's brother after the passed away. The bike spent it's entire life in the Phoenix AZ area and was obviously a prized possession of the owner. The bike has no rust, and no dings or dents. Just some chips and scratches that would be expected on a 40+ year old bike. The paint is also a bit thin looking in places. When I acquired the bike I went through it and repacked all off the bearings, trued the wheels, replaced the cables and housing, added new bar tape, Cool Stop brake pads and new tires. I also replaced the brake levers with new Tektro levers for better comfort. I've been using this bike as a commuter for the last couple of years, but I've got way too many bikes and this is one of the ones I've decided to let go. The frame is what's considered a 19.5 inch frame in the 1981 catalog and the approximate measurements are as follows: Seat tube center to center = 49 cm (approximately 19.5 inches) Top tube center to center = 53.5 cm The parts are as follows: Wheels - Avocet 36-hole hubs laced to 27 inch Wobler Super Champion Alloy Rims Panaracer Pasela 1-1/4x27 folding bead tires Sugino AT triple ring crankset with Suntour bottom bracket Dia-Compe cantilever brakes with new Cool Stop brake pads Suntor Mountec Front derailleur Suntour downtube friction shifters Shimano Deore long cage rear derailleur Avocet Touring II saddle Avocet rear rack Strong seatpost SR drop bar Tektro brake levers Specialized high-rise stem VP pedals King Cage flask cage mounted to seat-rails (I can keep this if it's not wanted) Also, I was planning to keep the cheapo bar light but can leave it on if asked.
