Here is an original 1980s VINTAGE (The serial number is 1E05104. The head badge SN appears to be 1980. 198th day of 1980?) mens Schwinn LE TOUR road touring bicycle with 27" wheels. The previous owner believes this one to be new around 1980. It is in the original and very appealing SILVER MIST colored factory paint. If you like original BETTER QUALITY unrestored vintage Schwinn road bikes, this may be a great bike for you.With the insanely high price of gas (and the economy being bad) now is the time to ride a cool vintage bike!
*This bike has a Schwinn "1020" lightweight butted tubing mens frame and with original paint and decals, chrome tip forks, Super Moxy 3-piece aluminum cranks, Shimano Altus front derailleur, Shimano AR rear derailleur, Shimano Altus aluminum twin stick shifters, Sakae Randoneer Road Champion drop style aluminum handlebars, SR aluminum neck/stem, vintage LETOUR road bike seat/saddle, rat trap pedals, (each has 1 reflector) Center pull brakes, and more! This bike appears to be almost all basically all original parts from when it was new. (see pics and be your own judge)
*I recently bought this from the original owner! He said this bike was over $400 when it was new!
*This was a higher end Schwinn road bike of the time! They sold many Varsity and Continental road bikes. The Le Tour was a higher end bike at the time. Few people spent the extra $ for the extra features. Consequently, you rare see these in any condition these days! They are cool looking and GREAT riding bikes!
*The tires are 27x1 1/4". They are slightly newer replacement tires and do hold air. The bike has chrome rims/wheels front and rear with a QUICK RELEASE front and rear hubs.
*The bike is an original 10-SPEED and the gears do operate. The hand controlled brakes are operable as well. (may need adjustment or possible cable replacement)
*DIMENSIONS This is a hard to find size frame set for a TALL rider! The standover height is approx 34 1/2". The distance from the floor to the top of the seat post clamp is approx 34 1/2". The distance from the center of the crank to the top of the seat post clamp is approx 25". The center of the handlebar stem to the center of the seat post is approx 21 1/2". The bike will accomadate most any rider comfortably. The seat height is easy to adjust.
*NOTED FLAWS I got this one just like you see it. The paint looks respectable for a 40+ year old bike! (has chips and scratches but has survived better than many. See pics) I LOVE the fact that this one still wears its original paint! The chrome is shiny but not perfect show quality. Both wheels have a slight wobble when you spin them. (most every used bike out there seems to) Dont miss out! Bikes like this do not come along often! Priced right! If you click on any of the pics they get very large to show lots of detail. Please take a look at all pics for exact condition and email with any questions before you bid.
SHIPPING NOTE! Due to this bike having such a tall frame, sometimes the place that packs for me has to get creative to get these in a box that will fit into UPS size requirements. Usually they remove both wheels and pack upside down to protect the cranks. They pack them safely and have done a number of these for us with success. Just wanted to give you a FYI for how the bike may arrive.
